The Mixed Mode Delivery Approach:
After many years of delivering training within TAFE colleges, Universities and private Registered Training Organisations, the course developers at ICCS have developed an approach to training delivery that provides flexibility and accessibility for all students. An accelerated learning approach provides greater accessibility for students, whilst enabling them to engage in THREE components of learning, thus ensuring all learning styles are catered for.
Competency based training:
At ICCS we fully support the principles of competency based training, by offering training that is not based on ‘time served’, but rather based on doing what is necessary to enable participants to achieve and demonstrate competence. ALL of our trainers ensure that each student is supported and coached towards competence, enabling them to adequately demonstrate competency which is measured against the National Competency Standards included in nationally endorsed Training Packages.
The three components:
Self-paced learning materials. Comprehensive information for each Unit is provided to the student to read outside class time. This allows for the participant to devote the amount of time THEY require to absorb the information. Students are asked to consider or undertake certain activities, in preparation for discussion in the class room.
Face to face sessions. During these sessions, participants come together to discuss their pre-reading and participate in activities with the supervision and guidance of a skilled facilitator. The distribution of the learning material and the order of the sessions ensures that information that is repeated across a number of units is not regurgitated, thus reducing the time required in class.
On the job learning. Throughout the course, participants engage in 150 hours of practical placement. These placements ensure the participants have the opportunity to put their theory into practice, whilst they are learning. This also enables students to learn on the job from experienced practitioners. Using the above three components, we have found that students learn, practice and remember. ICCS have been delivering training using the accelerated learning model for the past three years. During this time we have delivered training to in excess of 500 students, most of whom are now employed in rewarding careers. We have received positive feedback from employers regarding the knowledge and skill of our graduates.
