Providing accredited units from Diploma in Community Welfare Work CHC50702. In twelve weeks, you can add to your existing welfare or community services qualification and achieve 6 accredited units in counselling which will qualify you as a counselor with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). Alternatively, if you are wishing to move in to the area of Welfare or Community Work, you can use this program as a ‘spring-board’ for your studies. On completion, you may enter the Diploma of Community Welfare Work, complete the additional units required and obtain registration with ACA.
Graduates of the course, who already hold a Diploma in Community Welfare Work or equivalent, may register with The Australian Counsellors Association (ACA) as a Professional Counsellor, entitling them to legitimately work in private practice, underneath the banner of the ACA, or be employed within their organisation as a counselling professional.
This course is suitable for anyone working with people on a day to day basis. This 12 week program offers you the opportunity to learn how to communication with individuals more effectively and help them to achieve positive outcomes.
To use this program towards ACA accreditation, you need to do the following:
- Complete the 6 lectures and 6 practice counselling tutorials (12 sessions in total)
- Complete all 6 units assessment work
- Complete 200 hours of community services work ( a component of this must be observation of face to face therapeutic counselling by a qualified counsellor, social worker or psychologist (at least 4 cases). This must be documented.
- Complete 1 weekend training in a particular counselling modality where practice counselling occurs
- Document 6 counselling sessions you have conducted, including case notes and cover sheets. These can take place in the counselling tutorials or weekend workshop.
- When you receive your Certificate from ICCS, you should present this, together with your existing qualifications to Australian Counselling Association (ACA) for registration as a counsellor in Australia.
To gain entry into this course you need to demonstrate:
- Language and literacy skills sufficient to meet course requirements
- Commitment to understanding all course requirements
- Genuine and / or demonstrated interest in learning
- Ability to interact appropriately within a group setting
- Clear oral communication skills
Community Service professionals are in a position of trust and work with vulnerable people, so you will need to undergo a routine security check by the Victoria Police. ICCS provide you with all the necessary forms and have a discounted student rate available.
ICCS offer the Fasttrack Counselling Course as a mixed mode delivery learning program, using a combination of on the job, off the job and self paced study. Whilst you only need to attend classes one day per week, this program is classed as Full Time so we suggest you allow yourself plenty of time at home to complete your readings and assessment activities.
This program provides you with an excellent opportunity to obtain a nationally recognized qualification and complete your training time efficiently, in a supportive and helpful environment.
This course leads to a nationally accredited qualification. It provides training in the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to succeed in the Disability sector.

A non-refundable deposit of $550 is required to secure your place in this course. Applications will not be accepted until deposit is received.
RPL and RCC is available to all students. If you have completed any of the above units previously, a $70 discount is given, per unit. Please note a minimum fee of $1,200 is applicable for this course.
